The Nutritional Benefits of Eating Eggs

Chicken eggs are often referred to as a “superfood”, because of the many nutritional benefits associated with this food type. But what are the nutritional benefits of eating eggs? Well, there are quite a few.

One egg provides around 77 calories, 6 grams of protein and 5 grams of healthy fats. Eggs are an affordable and delicious form of protein, making them ideal for anyone, young or old, rich or poor. Eggs are nutrient-dense. This means that they contain a high percentage of nutrients per calorie.

The Cognitive Benefit of eggs

Eggs have certain positive cognitive effects. This is due to the vitamin D, Vitamin B12, folate and choline content of eggs. These vitamins keep our minds sharp. Choline is particularly noteworthy for pregnant women or young parents, because choline assists in ensuring that babies’ brains develop. Eggs contain a large percentage of the vitamins and minerals that the brain and nervous system need daily.

Weight management & protein

Eggs are often included in many weight-loss programmes, due to their protein content. Eggs are an excellent form of protein and are very satiating. Eggs are a complete protein. They also contain all nine essential amino acids. Amino acids are known as the building blocks of protein, and your body cannot produce them on its own.

Maintain eye health

Eggs are a good source of the antioxidant’s lutein and zeaxanthin. These antioxidants protect our eyes against issues such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Both cataracts and macular degeneration can lead to blindness.

Eggs and Cholesterol

In previous years, much has been said about eggs and cholesterol. While it is true that eggs contain cholesterol, modern research has disputed the finding that eggs have a serious negative effect on cholesterol levels.  Contemporary research has found that the cholesterol in eggs does not significantly impact the cholesterol levels of most individuals. A moderate number of eggs will not be a problem for most healthy individuals.

Recommendations regarding the number of eggs you can safely consume. Some experts advise that most healthy individuals can consume up to seven eggs a week without impacting their risk of heart disease while others recommend no more than 3 eggs per day.

Boost your immune system

One of the more unexpected benefits of egg consumption are the immune-boosting qualities. As eggs are high in vitamins including vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin B12 and Vitamin D, they keep our immune systems well. The only vitamin not found in eggs is vitamin C. Vitamin A, Vitamin B12 and selenium are particularly valuable for the immune system, and they are all found in eggs.

Eggs contain multiple antioxidants, which keep your cells healthy.

So, go ahead, add more eggs to your everyday life!
